Meadow Stone House

About this project

Nestled beneath established oak trees, the home’s quality is abundantly clear upon arrival. The plan is composed of two gable-roofed volumes (one for the living spaces, and the other for three bedrooms, service areas and the garage) which are sited adjacently but slightly askew to one another, and are linked by a central flat-roofed entrance lobby and media room. A sheltered west-facing alfresco outdoor area provides ample room for year-round entertaining, which naturally flows out to the garden beyond.

A palette of dark horizontal cedar, white plaster and schist claddings complement each-other well, reflecting the home’s quality in the up-market streetscape of West Meadows Drive.

Raking panelled ceilings in the living space express the gable roof pitch internally with the ceiling line and the ceiling material extending outside above the alfresco area too, unifying the two living spaces. The living room is light-filled and captures both sunshine and expansive views of Wanaka’s surrounding mountain ranges. A broad schist-clad internal fireplace in the living area reintroduces an external cladding material inside, whilst the polished concrete floors, with exposed pebble aggregate help ground the project in its mountainous surrounds.
